The teacher uses content and pedagogical expertise to design and execute lessons aligned with state standards, related content and student needs.
In my college course, Arts for Children, I created another lesson plan that satisfies the requirements for this dimension. The content area was Social Studies/History with an art component. This cross-disciplinary lesson helped me to grow in my content expertise because it required both prior knowledge of the subject and adaptability. In order to alter a lesson plan to suit a second discipline, the first content must be mastered/understood. I understood the cultural effects that this lesson required as well as comprehending that fairy tales can appear in various forms. Since I had this prior knowledge, I was able to grow in my expertise of this content area.
