Dimension 2.4: Differentiation

The teacher differentiates instruction, aligning methods and techniques to diverse student needs.

Differentiation takes many forms in the classroom because there are various ways to modify instruction to meet the needs of all students, but the specific type of differentiation depends on the uniqueness of the individual. Every student requires something different. One example of this differentiation is how I manage small math groups. I attached an example of a weekly lesson plan for these groups, varying in level depending on which group I would be meeting that day. During math centers, there are two rotations, which gives me the opportunity to meet with two small groups per day. There are three groups in all, but even within the groups, the students are on different levels, so I need to modify instruction according to the individual.
