The teacher demonstrates leadership with students, colleagues, and community members in the school, district, and community through effective communication and outreach.
The school community is impacted not only by instruction in the classroom but also through the efforts of parents and the larger community. The involvement of parents can aid in the success of students, but the other side is that parents also want to be informed of the activities their children are partaking in throughout the school day. The standard way to communicate this information to parents is through emails and phone calls, but another way, that may be more effective, is through a weekly newsletter. My cooperating teacher created these with her second grade team, utilizing a different theme that was representative of each month. The newsletter I included as evidence of community outreach was sent to parents the week before Spring Break, which gave a brief overview of the lessons for the week, such as continuing 3D shapes in math.
